North and South Carolina's
Women's Ice Hockey team
Mission Statement -

Tri-City Selects is a North and South Carolina wide Women's district-bound
Team. The main objective is to promote and develop women’s hockey in our
region. As well as to create a strong network between the local organizations
which helps create more opportunities for female hockey players by working
together to support and establish women's teams and events (tournaments, clinics

Tri-City Selects will not be entering any local tournaments in the affiliation. The
reasoning behind that is if we have players from each location (Charlotte,
Columbia, Charleston, Wilmington, Greensboro and Raleigh) this team will only
weaken teams that are fighting for players already.

The goal of this team is to provide a opportunity for players that want to
experience competitive hockey and compete at the district tournament(hopefully
the National tournament as well). A requirement to be eligible for the district
tournament is that the team must play 14 games and each player must participate
in 10 games.

However in 2009, no organizations were planning on fielding a team and we were
approached by several women asking us to attempt to pull all the interested players
together and form one statewide team since the numbers were not strong enough
to support local district-bound C teams.

In late October 2009, we hosted open tryouts and selected 17 players to represent
the Carolinas as Team CAHA
(now Tri-City Selects) at the 2010 Southeastern
District Tournament. After each season we will assess the need for a statewide
team and hope that eventually we will see several local organizations fielding teams
to compete at the district level and represent our affiliation.

Tri-City primed for another successful season

The Selects will open the 2013-2014 season in a few weeks when they travel to Aston, PA for the Summer Sizzler. The team returns 15 players from the previous season and will look to continue the on-ice success. Make sure you follow the ladies on Facebook throughout the season for instant game updates and upcoming events.

Coach Neumann has over 20 years coaching experience and has guided 3 teams to the National tournament. We are excited to have Tracy aboard and look forward to the 2013-2014 season and how the team takes shape under his guidance and coaching.

Tri-City Selects capture bronze medal at 2013 Nationals

The ladies traveled to Oakland looking to follow up their impressive run from 2012. The tournament saw the Selects face-off against the host team San Jose Lady Sharks. Tri-City was able to skate away with a 2-0 win in a tight checking game where both teams battled first game nerves.

The second game matched the Selects against the eventual National Champions, Rochester Edge. The Edge were able to capitalize on a power play and with it secure the win in another close game that ended 1-0 in Rochesterís favor.

In the final game of the round robin, the Selects needed a win to ensure their place in the Quarterfinals. The ladies came out on fire and jumped out to a 4 goal lead, however Missouri Herricanes showed their composure and battled back to draw the game to within 1 before the final buzzer sounded.

With the win Tri-City became the number 2 seed out of the American division. With the seeding the Selects were slated against the Utah Thunder. The quarterfinal game ironically was a rematch of last yearís final. The game was everything you would expect in a single elimination format though the Selects continued to play strong defensive hockey and Kristy Knight was able to break through and put Tri-City on the board. The ladies were able to defend the lead and advanced to the semi-finals with the 1-0 victory.

In the semi-finals the ladies were matched up against another familiar Southeast foe. The Southern Thunder and Tri-City had faced off 5 times already this season, with the Thunder holding the 3-2 edge. The game ended up being another defensive battle in which the opponent was able to tally goals in the first and third periods to eliminate the Selects from the National tournament with the 2-0 win.

2012-2013 will go down as another successful season with the North Carolina team capturing another medal at the National Tournament. The program will look to continue building on their success and with the bulk of the team returning, they will be trying to make another run at the 2014 Nationals in Marlborough, MA.

First Half in the books

This past weekend the Selects wrapped up the first half of the '12-'13 season. With 23 games played Tri-City has amassed a 17-4-2 record, the four losses have come against the Liberty University ACHA D1 and men's teams. The ladies remain undefeated against other USA Hockey women's teams and have claimed first at the Summer Sizzler, Cleveland Classic and Florida Festival tournaments.

The team has received strong goaltending and the newcomers have provided an added boost to the offensive. The Selects are averaging 5.4 goals a game while holding their opponents to 1.6. Leading the offensive charge are Kristy Knight (20g, 20a), Shelby Saltys (15g,13a) and Miranda Browning (13g,11a). Kelsey Neumann and Amanda Stephenson have combined for a 1.00 goals against average and Kelsey has posted 2 shut outs.

Entering the second half the team will be gearing up for the Southeastern district tournament which will once again have a highly competitive field.

The ladies have several weeks off before returning to the ice in late January when they host Chesapeake Bay Lightning 'C' team at RCI.
